Description
Flinders Street Station has been an architectural icon of the city of Melbourne for over a century.
The buildings prominent corner position with its clocks above the main corner entry has made it a favourite meeting place for the city over many years. Designed in the Edwardian Baroque style, the building is world renowned for its grandeur on a large scale. This painting depicts the building with all its glory on full display, including the magnificent copper clad dome above the main corner entry and the clock tower at the opposite end of the building. I particularly enjoyed picking up the details of the building including the numerous dentils (rectangular toothlike mouldings) which present all over the building and the many arches. I decided to pair the building with another Melbourne icon – the tram.
