Description
Flinders Rockpool.
Located under an hour away from Melbourne is the coastal town of Flinders. It comprises of a peninsula with the calm waters of Western Port Bay on one side, contrasted with the ocean waters of Bass Strait on the other. It is here where you’ll find this beach which is the subject of this painting. Overall it’s a very grey beach which gives it a melancholy feel and this is something l like a lot about this beach and the area around it. It’s also very rocky with a reef that gives protection from the rough waters with beautiful rockpools close to the beach as seen in this painting. I chose to paint this scene because it had all the elements that make a great painting including a cliff face with its reflection in a rockpool as well as plenty of rocks and water in between. All of this made the scene a challenge to paint but the end result was rewarding as l think this is a painting that really gives the feel of the harsh rocky coastal nature of the area.
